Last Sunday, August 11, the Algarve International Racetrack (AIA) in Portimão saw history being made by the Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who achieved his 13th straight victory in the FIM Superbike World Championship, making it a new Superbike record.
Competing for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, Razgatlioglu finished Race 1 of the Pirelli Portuguese Round nearly three seconds (+2.980s) ahead of Italian rider Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) and just over three seconds (+3.251s) ahead of third-placed English rider Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK).
In Race 2, he won again, beating Italian rival Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) by just 0.035s.
“It’s been an incredible weekend,” Razgatlioglu shared after the race, cited by the WorldSBK website.
“I have 54 wins in total and I’m really happy. In the last race, I was fighting with Nicolo (Bulega) and Alvaro (Bautista) but in general, I’m really happy. It’s very special because every day, we are becoming more like a legend! I feel like we’re a family in WorldSBK and with the BMW, we are at the level to win every weekend. I don’t know when this streak will finish but the feeling is good and I’m just trying to push for the win.”
