Serving quality sushi and perfect thirst-quenching beverages, Baushi Sushi & Bar is a great showcase of Japanese cuisine. BONECA BAR €

Visiting Boneca is quite a phenomenon as it is located in the most famous, and consequently, busiest, hotspot in Carvoeiro, yet still manages to be an extremely relaxing experience. Nestled in the Algar Seco rock formations, the restaurant boats a stunning sea view and is one of the few remaining restaurants that still cook meat and fish on a traditional charcoal grill, visible from the terrace. This family-run establishment has been going since 1969, providing food of a high standard with a very friendly team, and is well worth a visit!

This lovely restaurant is a favourite amongst locals. The menu offers a wide variety of Nepalese specialities, and lovers of spiced food will find the dishes are all very different with mild and balanced flavours. This cuisine is also great for people who are not too comfortable with the hotter Indian flavours. They have an Indian menu as well, so there’s something for everyone’s palate. When you reach O Cantinho and The Wolf, on Estrada do Farol, walk up the steep hill.

L’ORANGE €

A cosy restaurant with a relaxing ambience, L’Orange specialises in international and French-inspired cuisine created by Belgian chef patron Jan Mortier, complemented by the delicious homemade desserts made by wife Karin. An attractive trattoria-style restaurant at the top of Estrada do Farol, Primavera serves Italian/Mediterranean cuisine, including pizza, pasta dishes, fresh fish and great steaks. Boasting one of the nicest views of Carvoeiro Beach, this restaurant serves tapas and small snacks, perfect to enjoy an afternoon chatting with friends, as well as main dishes. Taste is located at the end of Rua do Barranco (the out road). Located on the main square facing Carvoeiro beach, this new, lively Italian restaurant serves both classic and fusion dishes with homemade ingredients. The pasta is all made in-house for dishes such as the carbonara and the spaghetti gamberi. The massive restaurant includes outdoor seating and a newly refurbished upstairs terrace. They also host Chill Out Sessions with DJs playing music into the night.

A vineyard, a craft-beer brewery, a stunning dining space with terraces and a fabulous courtyard just on the edge the Pestana Gramacho golf course. Located in the centre of Porches, this is one of the oldest and most appealing restaurants in the Algarve. Established in the 1960s and now run by Belgian owner Bianca Salden, the restaurant serves Belgian and Mediterranean cuisine complemented by a well-balanced list of more than 80 Portuguese wines. The building still retains much of its 18th-century charm, and the creative menu perfectly complements the cosy and inviting ambience of the restaurant.

Located opposite the water tower in Sesmarias to the west of Carvoeiro (next to Bon Bon restaurant), Oregano offers a mix of Italian and Portuguese cuisine. At this traditional restaurant with a modern twist, the oyster is queen. Au naturel, au gratin, breaded or even inside delicious fritters known as ‘rissóis’, the fresh oysters used here come straight from the Alvor lagoon. But there is much more fresh seafood to enjoy here, and they often have weekly suggestion such as the shrimp risotto, açorda bread stew with cuttlefish, razor clams and salads with shrimp or tuna, to name just a few.

Located inside Portimão’s Municipal Market, Presuntaria do Mercado is a gourmet shop, focusing on serving top-quality, 100% acorn-fed Iberian ham from Beher knife, Spain’s leading cured ham producer. This beautifully kitted-out lounge/bar/restaurant can be found in between Carvoeiro and Lagoa, near Intermarché. Located on Caneiros beach between Carvoeiro and Ferragudo, this high-quality restaurant offers a very good selection of prime fresh fish that can be plain grilled or oven-roasted and then deboned at your table. For a special treat, ask for the fresh giant carabineiros (scarlet prawns). There is an excellent selection of fine wines and Champagnes, including Billecart-Salmon, served at the lounge-bed area on the beach. Reservations are essential.
