The Afro Nation festival couldn’t have got off to a better start this Wednesday (June 26), bringing thousands to Praia da Rocha beach in Portimão.

Festival-goers in beachwear enjoyed the festival’s tribal decorations and infectious energy on the first day of the event, which brings worldwide known Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, R&B, Dancehall, and Afrohouse artists to the Algarve.

Meanwhile, the Piano People Stage featured Musa Keys, Mellow & Sleazy, KMAT, Kelvin Momo, and many more.

According to the organisers, Afro Nation is characterised by a spirit of camaraderie and love among festival-goers, highlighting that last year the festival even witnessed the “first marriage proposal on the stand in front of the main stage”.

A total of 2,000 additional parking spaces were made available this year compared to last year, and as a result of the high demand for Nicki Minaj’s performance, the festival organisers made daily tickets available, as opposed to the usual three-day tickets.

Afro Nation Portugal sold out tickets for the first time last summer, with over 40,000 visitors from 140 countries and memorable performances by artists such as 50 Cent, Burna Boy, Booba, and Aya Nakamura.
