Lagoa is preparing to host its annual sweets fair, the ‘Mostra dos Doces Conventuais’, at the Centro Cultural Convento de S. José, from August 29 to September 1.
Visitors can enjoy traditional sweets made by expert pastry-makers from across the country, as well as sweets crafted according to the recipes from nuns who once lived in Portuguese convents and monasteries.
In a fair truly dedicated to the traditional art of local and Portuguese confectionery, there will be a never-ending array of pastries and cakes, as well as jams, honey, nuts, caramelised fruits, medronho, Algarve wines, ginjinha served in chocolate cups, and other delicacies.
As always, Lagoa’s signature ‘Florados de Lagoa’ are sure to delight visitors.
The event will feature daily entertainment shows, including demonstrations on how to make some of the Algarve’s most famous conventual sweets, confectionery workshops for children, and an exhibition entitled ‘Açucár Encantado’ (Enchanted Sugar) by Ana Remígio, Lagoa’s acclaimed and award-winning cake designer.
The event is free to attend and the venue is open from 7pm to midnight.
