Historical records indicate that the market was constructed around 1924 and was officially inaugurated on January 15, 1925.

Celebrations of the centenary began this October and will continue until January 15, 2025, when a plaque celebrating the centenary and a book entitled “Mercado Municipal da Avenida (1924) – Um Mercado Centenário” will be unveiled.

The programme includes guided tours of the market, featuring memories tied to the Mercado da Avenida and other markets prominent in the last century, as well as live music and cooking demonstrations showcasing the richness of local cuisine and some of the secrets behind the many cooking methods available in the municipal markets.

For more information, follow the municipality on social media to keep up with the programme.
